DESCRIPTION:The International Conference on Electronic Publishing (ELPUB) reaches its 20th anniversary! ELPUB 2016 continues the tradition\, and brings together scholars\, publishers\, lecturers\, librarians\, developers\, entrepreneurs\, users and all other stakeholders interested in issues regarding electronic publishing in widely differing contexts. \nELPUB 2016 will have a fresh look on the current ecosystem of scholarly publishing including the positioning of stakeholders and distribution of economic\, technological and discursive power. ELPUB will also open the floor for emerging alternatives in how scholars and citizens interact with scholarly content and what role dissemination and publishing plays in these interactions. Questions to be raised include: What is the core of publishing today? How does agenda setting in emerging frameworks like Open Science function and what is the nature of power of the referring scholarly discourses? How does this relate to the European and world-wide Open Science and Open Innovation agenda of funders and institutions\, and how does this look like in publishing practice? \nThe conference will investigate the position and power of players and agents\, – e.g. scholars and their networks\, legacy and academia-owned publishers\, research institutions and e-infrastructures – as well as their respective agendas. When looking at these interlinked topics\, we aim to sharpen the view for current challenges and ways forward to reshape the publishing system. SUMMARY:FORCE 2016 Conference
DESCRIPTION:FORCE11 is a community of scholars\, librarians\, archivists\, publishers and research funders that has arisen organically to help facilitate the change toward improved knowledge creation and sharing. Individually and collectively\, we aim to bring about a change in modern scholarly communications through the effective use of information technology. FORCE11 has grown from a small group of like-minded individuals into an open movement with clearly identified stakeholders associated with emerging technologies\, policies\, funding mechanisms and business models. While not disputing the expressive power of the written word to communicate complex ideas\, our foundational assumption is that scholarly communication by means of semantically enhanced media-rich digital publishing is likely to have a greater impact than communication in traditional print media or electronic facsimiles of printed works. However\, to date\, online versions of ‘scholarly outputs’ have tended to replicate print forms\, rather than exploit the additional functionalities afforded by the digital terrain. We believe that digital publishing of enhanced papers will enable more effective scholarly communication\, which will also broaden to include\, for example\, the publication of software tools\, and research communication by means of social media channels. We see FORCE11 as a starting point for a community that we hope will grow and be augmented by individual and collective efforts by the participants and others. DESCRIPTION:The Sci-GaIA Open Science Workshop will occur on November 18-19\, 2015 in Maputo\, Mozambique. DESCRIPTION:Centro STEPS América Latina is an interdisciplinary research group based at the Centro de Investigaciones para la Transformación (CENIT) which is associated with Tres de Febrero University (UNTREF). We work on issues of science\, technology and sustainable development in Latin America. We are part of a network of centres located in the UK\, USA\, China\, India\, Kenya and Sweden. We want to open up and help renew development agendas in Latin America\, based on the idea that their exist diverse development pathways. We draw on numerous experiences in the region that\, with varying levels of visibility and influence\, seek to promote alternative forms of change. Our research\, intervention and communication activities are aimed at supporting development pathways that integrate social inclusion\, environmental integrity and economic development. \nLaunch Event\n Centro STEPS Alternativas Sustentables para AMERICA LATINA\n Dates: November 5th and 6th 2015 \nOur launch event will create a space for debate and interaction between policy-makers\, academics\, civil society organizations\, and the public interested in the themes of sustainable development\, innovation and inclusion.\nThe objectives of the event are to:\n•  Promote discussion between different perspectives on development\, inclusion and sustainability.\n•  Incorporate sustainability as a dimension that cuts across other areas of the analysis of development.\n•  Discuss policies for sustainable development and explore new processes for formulating policy and intervention.\n•  Stimulate exchanges between actors with distinctive experiences and knowledge.\n•  Create a research and action network on alternative technologies for sustainable development from the perspective of the global south.\n•  Create channels for dialogue between research centres working on sustainable development in different regions of the world.\n•  Present STEPS América Latina\, its areas of research and the global network that it represents in the region. \nAreas of discussion\nThe event will discuss and integrate four themes of enormous relevance to policies for science\, technology and sustainable development in the region: open science\, innovation for social inclusion\, horizontal innovations for sustainability\, and natural resources and development. \nTentative workshop program available for download (in English): STEPS Launch event programme 5th-6th November \nFor more information (in Spanish)\, visit the STEPS website.
